Thoughts about “Pink Valley”

   Good
day everyone.

I introduce you to my new mini-series of
drawings based on three resin charms I’ve made awhile back.

To be honest, this illustration was just an on-the-spot
idea I had because I ran out of creative juices for new art to make for a
class. And then time goes on and it became a little series now.

It was interesting making Pink Valley. I didn’t
have much of a narrative in mind when I was drawing it, I only knew that I’ve
been wanting to make something with a gray gradient for a sky, some galaxy
stars sprinkle here and there, some more stars sprinkle in the sea, and maybe a
girl looking up the sky because I thought it looked cool. And as I was putting
down the ideas into paper, I thought of a small idea of a story, maybe this
place has some sort of meaning to it? And maybe the little girl is someone
mysterious but also familiar. All that fuse together in pot and out come Pink
Valley.

  Funny
story, when I was in the middle of putting down the first coat of color, I suddenly
realised I was using the wrong paper! No wonder the paint felt so weird when I was
painting. But I was running out of time and it took an hour to ink the illustration,
I didn’t want to redo all of it again so I when along with it while trying my
best to not destroy the paper and the drawing all together. The colors were
bleeding so much, I hated it, but I guess it gave the drawing some charm when
finished. Just happy accidents. I’m never going to use that paper again for
watercolor though, it was annoying trying to control the bleeding and the paper
fibers kept on bunching up if I was not careful with my water and pressure on
the brush. All in all, not so much of an enjoyable time, so that paper, who’s
kind I don’t even know, is only for inks now. Well, I’m not proud of it because
there’re still some areas needed improvement, but at least the drawing turned out
ok in the end
